A RAW photograph is a very large file because it contains all of the tiny details and bits of information that the camera can provide. On the other hand, JPEG files are simpler, and much smaller versions that compress all the information into a more manageable file. JPEG images are not as detailed as RAW images, but are better for the purposes of sharing on the internet or just using for fun because the files are not as large.
